WHY I WANT TO CONTINUE TO SERVE

DEAR NEIGHBOR

In 2017, I was appointed to Berkley City Council  because of my passion for Berkley, my professional expertise in government and finance, and my personal involvement in the city. I am beyond grateful that the residents elected me to a full term in November of 2019 and I strive each day to serve with integrity, dedication, and with a commitment to all Berkley residents. In my 6 years on council, and the last year as Mayor Pro Tem, I have worked to bring creative solutions to help solve complex problems and to chart the best course for our residents. However, crafting and implementing policy is all for nothing unless it works for the people. I have always remembered in every vote I’ve taken and every policy I’ve helped create that policy affects real people’s lives and I bring this resident centered approach to my role on Berkley City Council. I have spent my time on Council helping move our city forward together in good times and through more difficult challenges. We have challenges as a city, but I am convinced that working together we can continue to make Berkley even better.

When I was 10 years old my grandma and I handed out balloons and stickers to kids at a parade in support of a local candidate whom we believed in. I didn’t know it then, but that was the birth of a real passion and a desire to help make change. I saw firsthand what it looks like when people work together at a grassroots level to elect a candidate they truly believe in and work for something that is greater than an individual. My interest in public service, specifically at the local level, has only grown stronger since then, and with it my desire to serve my fellow residents and neighbors. This is why I am running for re-election. The Berkley community has given me and my family a sense of community and that has made me want to continue to give back.

I believe that local government is where honest collaboration and real compromise can take place and where you can truly impact residents’ lives, which is why I love working and serving in it. It doesn’t matter to me someone’s political affiliation as long as they are coming to the table in a spirit of kindness, respect, a willingness to understand differing viewpoints, and an honest desire to do good for our community. I have enjoyed the enormous responsibility of helping Berkley grow, while keeping Berkley a place where retirees and seniors, young families and those just starting out live side by side and thrive.

Serving on Berkley City Council has been an honor and a privilege. Every day I’ve worked hard to earn your trust and to make local government work for you. The next election is November 7th and I’m working hard to earn your vote. I look forward to continuing the conversation and seeing you out at the doors!

Come join the conversation and be part of the solution!
